One of the most interesting historical features of the Knibbe Ranch is the fact it was the site of a professional archeological dig. During the dig the Archeologists found authentic bison bones to confirm that this area was a bison kill site, or commonly called a “buffalo jump.” The tools and bones they discovered will be explained by the Knibbes. You and your guests will even get hands-on moments with the items that were uncovered.
The Knibbes will show your guests how the prehistoric people used midden rocks to cook their food.
Your guests will also be introduced to and can experiment with the atlatl, the surprisingly effective spear throwing weapon of the period. This weapon creates the thrust needed to kill smaller animals like deer or antelope. All this is not only a great once in a lifetime learning experience, but a fun memory your guests can share with others upon returning home.
